n Barnesville: Schuylkill County Trout Unlimited will hold a fly-tying program at 6 p.m. Saturday at the amphitheater at Locust Lake State Park. The program will include a brief introduction on how to identify different species of trout and macroinvertebrates and how to tie a fly for fly fishing. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved to the program shelter near the camp store. For more information, call naturalist Robin Tracey at 570-467-2506.

n Frackville: A Strawberry Festival will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Oak and Nice streets, from 4 to 6 p.m. June 25. Fare will include hot dog or barbecue, strawberries, ice cream and a baked good. Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children 10 and younger. People may eat at the church or take items out. n Pine Grove: The annual Fourth of July Concert in the Park is set to begin at 6 p.m. July 4 at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park, featuring the Pine Grove Community Band. People are invited to bring lawn chairs to enjoy the performance. People may also arrive early and enjoy a walk on the boardwalk and park trails or do some fishing or boating before the show. The concert is free.

n Pottsville: Barefield Development Corp. has announced the sixth annual Charles D. Shields Memorial 3-on-3 Tournament will be held July 26 at Barefield Outdoor Recreation Complex, 823 Terry Reiley Way. Teams, both boys and girls, will be registered in the following age groups: Grades 3-5, 6-8, 9-10 and 11-12. All proceeds will benefit Pottsville Area boys' basketball programs. n Ringtown: St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 100 E. Main St., will hold its annual picnic from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. The event, according to a release, will include food and fellowship.

n Schuylkill Haven: The Diakon Senior Community Center, rear 121 Main St., will host Movie Madness for free from 12:30 to 3 p.m. July 15 at the center. It will feature ice cream sundaes and "a movie on us," according to a Diakon release. The feature film will be Disney's "Frozen." Supervised children are welcome. n Shenandoah: M&T Bank and Shenandoah Rotary Club are sponsoring a free concert by the Upper Schuylkill Marching Band at 6:30 p.m. June 26 at American Legion Memorial Garden in the 100 block of North Main Street, next to the Anthony P. Damato American Legion "Medal of Honor" Post 792. Attendees are asked to bring a chair. Refreshments will be served and the memorial flags will be announced. n Shenandoah: The Downtown Shenandoah Open Air Farm Market will launch its 2014 season on Friday at the southeast corner of Main and Centre streets near the more than century-old Bolich & Burke building. The market will go from about 7:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Fridays through November. It features regional growers offering fruits, vegetables, various plants and other items. Launched in the 1970s, it is the oldest downtown market of its kind in the region. Mark Bernardyn is chairman of the Greater Shenandoah Area Chamber of Commerce Farm Market Committee.

n Shenandoah: Shenandoah Community Watch meets at 6 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month in borough hall, Washington and Main streets. Meetings are open to the public and new members are always welcome. Gordon Slater, SCW president, has called for more people to attend and become involved for the betterment of the community.

n Summit Hill: During the annual Memorial Mass held in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, the Panther Valley Golden Agers lighted 15 candles for each deceased member as the name was called. After the liturgy, members enjoyed a social. At the group's June 9 meeting, Sue Johns, a representative from Diakon Community Services, was a guest speaker.
