ORWIGSBURG - Joshua D. Hanna was at the wrong prison Tuesday, resulting in a continuance of his preliminary hearing on 25 charges stemming from a two-county car chase in May.
Hanna, 21, of Dillsburg, had been scheduled to appear before Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier for his hearing on the charges resulting from the May 12 incident in Berks and Schuylkill counties.
However, Assistant Public Defender Christopher M. Riedlinger, Hanna's lawyer, said his client had been transferred from Schuylkill County Prison.
"He is in Adams County prison, and we were all unaware of it," Riedlinger said.
Ferrier said he would reschedule the hearing.
Prosecutors have charged Hanna with fleeing or eluding police, driving under the influence, recklessly endangering another person, driving without a license, driving under suspension, fictitious or altered drivers license, failing to surrender license, failure to obey traffic control devices, unsafe passing, passing when prohibited, disregarding traffic lanes, speeding, reckless driving, accident involving damage to unattended vehicle or property, two counts each of failure to keep right, careless driving and damaging real property by operation of motor vehicle and five of improper turning movements.
State police from Schuylkill Haven said the incident leading to the arrest began about 4:50 p.m. after Hanna was involved in a crash on Interstate 78 and fled the scene without stopping.
Hanna's vehicle was seen on Route 183 by a trooper in an unmarked car near the Schuylkill-Berks line.
The trooper attempted to stop Hanna, who fled north on Route 183, eventually driving through Cressona and into Schuylkill Haven. Police said the pursuit ended after Hanna crashed his vehicle.
Hanna was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and also refused medical treatment following the crash, police said.
Hanna's vehicle was towed from the scene of the crash in Schuylkill Haven and police said Schuylkill Haven police, fire police and EMS assisted at the scene.
