TUSCARORA - This year the Strawberry Playhouse is celebrating 10 years of live entertainment

Director and founder Lucille Fala-Brennan said a celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 7 at the playhouse, which is the renovated former Old Zion Church. Admission is free.

"Come and have a good time and help us celebrate," Fala-Brennan said.

For the celebration, players will sing show tunes and there will be a Chinese auction, refreshments, games, vendors and a book signing by Bobby Maso, one of the playhouse's actors.

According to Fala-Brennan, 10 years ago on Sept. 9, 2003, she finalized the purchase of the old Zion Church from the Tamaqua Area Historical Society.

Fala-Brennan has a lifelong interest in theater and the arts and has been active in promoting theater and the arts in Carbon and Schuylkill counties for the past 17 years.

She was instrumental in the formation of the Actor's Guild of Schuylkill County and directed more than 20 productions as the drama advisor at Blue Mountain High School.

The Strawberry Playhouse has produced more than 51 shows, musicals, dramas, comedies, cabarets and special events.

A few of those shows included "Fiddler on the Roof," "Oklahoma," "Hello Dolly," "Bus Stop," "A Streetcar Named Desire," "View From the Bridge," "Alice in Wonderland," "Tom Sawyer" and "A Christmas Carol," which is an annual tradition.

Recently, the playhouse opened its 10th spring season with Arthur Miller's "A View from the Bridge," a play set in 1950s America in a Brooklyn Italian-American neighborhood near the Brooklyn Bridge.

Throughout the year, the playhouse also offers adult and young actor workshops, encouraging theater arts in the area.

Fala-Brennan said that over the years, the playhouse has received more and more actors coming to auditions as well as more and more of an audience, "meaning not only relatives of the actors."

"I am so grateful," she said. "I want to show the people and have them come and have a party with us and enjoy live entertainment that day, to share the blessing that I received from the area."

The playhouse is asking all the past participants and audience members as well as the general public, to come to the anniversary celebration.
