A Tamaqua business woman announced Wednesday that she is running for Schuylkill County treasurer.
Linda Gallo Marchalk said she announced her candidacy Wednesday after consulting with incumbent Treasurer Jacqueline V. McGovern and learning of her retirement.
“I want to praise Jackie McGovern for the outstanding job she has done in her 20 years of distinguished service to Schuylkill County,” Marchalk said in a prepared statement.
“I am excited by the opportunity to serve, and I believe my qualifications and strong coal region work values will serve me well as treasurer. Both of my parents were hard-working people, and I credit much of my success to having had them as examples. I have worked very hard to get where I am today and, in fact, I am committed to working just as hard for the taxpayers of Schuylkill County as treasurer,” she said.
Marchalk is a lifelong resident of Schuylkill County and resides in Barnesville with her husband, Gary D. Marchalk, who is a local attorney. She is a graduate of Blue Mountain High School and also earned an associate degree in Business Administration from Penn State University.
She has been the vice-president and managing principal in Northeast Pennsylvania Abstract Agency since 2005. As part of her responsibilities in that position, she handles all of the management, accounting and administrative functions. During the past year, she has had sole responsibility of more than $25 million that has been deposited into and disbursed from the firm’s escrow account.
Marchalk also serves on the Board of Directors of the Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce as treasurer. She is also a member of the Schuylkill County Chamber of Commerce. Marchalk previously devoted time to the Frackville Business and Professional Association and assisted with many events, including Mardi Gras, which proceeds benefited the Frackville Free Public Library.
