n New Philadelphia: A Red Cross blood drive is set for 1 to 6 p.m. July 23 at the Simon Kramer Community and Recreation Center, 15 Alliance St. All presenting donors will receive a light lunch compliments of The Simon Kramer Cancer Institute and Cafe Sweet Barista, located on the second floor the facility. n New Philadelphia: A cancer survivors picnic is set for noon to 5 p.m. July 27 at the Simon Kramer Cancer Institute and Community Recreation Center, 15 Alliance St. The event will begin with an 11 a.m. Mass. For more information, call 570-277-6218.

n Pottsville: Free blood pressure screenings are held at the Diakon senior community living centers in communities throughout the county. For information about times and sites, call 570-624-3017.

n Pottsville: Trinity Lutheran Church will hold a benefit recital and reception for the Rev. Philip S. Bendle III Scholarship Fund at 7 p.m. July 12 at the Majestic Theatre. The reception will be held at the Pottsville Senior Center, 201 N. Centre St., immediately following the recital, which will be by Samantha Wood, an accomplished soprano who is in the process of completing her master's degree in vocal music performance from Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan. All proceeds from the event will go to the scholarship fund. Bendle served as pastor of Trinity Lutheran for 27 years. Tickets for the recital and reception are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. n Shenandoah: For the services of the Catholic Charities Immigration Outreach Office, 218 W. Cherry St., call Jennifer Clerici at 570-462-2585 or email jclerici@allentowndiocese.org. Services are available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the second and fourth Mondays of the month. Representatives of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Allentown offer services from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays at 218 W. Cherry St. Services include pregnancy and parenting support, case management for individuals, families and older adults plus information and referral. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred. To schedule an appointment or for more information, call Catholic Charities at 570-628-0466.

n Shenandoah: The Greater Shenandoah Area Senior Citizens hold a weekly get-together at noon Wednesdays at the senior center, Washington and Market streets. Participants enjoy lunch and play bingo. New members are welcome. For more information, call 570-462-1965.

n Shenandoah: The Shenandoah Area Free Public Library, Washington and Main streets, collects Redner's Warehouse Markets tapes and has Boyer's Food Markets key tags. Tags can be picked up at the library. The library also accepts memorial and honor donations for friends or loved ones. For more information, call the library at 570-462-9829.

n Tamaqua: Free community soup socials - outreach soup kitchens - are held from 4 to 6 p.m. the first Saturday of the month in Founders Hall at Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St. All are welcome. People should use the lower parking lot entrance to the hall.

n Tamaqua: The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Summer Concert Series on the platform at the Tamaqua Train Station will feature the following performances, all from 6 to 8 p.m.: July 10, Carol Tempest (oldies); July 17, Shannon Miedaner Marsyada (acoustic classic rock and blues); July 24, Gene Morrison Family and Friends (oldies and folk); July 31, Christopher Dean Band (rhythm and blues); Aug. 7, Todd Wolfe Band (classic rock, "bluesadelic"); Aug. 21, BC Combo (blues); Aug. 28, Coal County Express (bluegrass), and Sept. 4, Fred Douglas (oldies).
