DUI checkpoints
announced
Sobriety checkpoints and roving DUI patrols will be conducted June 30 through Sunday by the North Central Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce.
Motorists will notice the safety measures on routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 1006, 309, 1008, 443, 895, 125, 25, 924 and 54.
The checkpoints are part of the North Central PA Regional Sobriety Checkpoint and Expanded DUI/Underage Drinking Enforcement Program funded through the state Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
If you suspect a drunk driver, call 911. To report underage drinking, call 888-UNDER21.
Laptop theft leads
to 2 charged
Two people allegedly stole a Asus X550 laptop from Staples in the Cressona Mall and are locked up in Columbia County Prison on other charges.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said the incident took place at 3:30 p.m. May 21 at the store in North Manheim Township as Kyle Avery and Justine A. Price., both of Nanticoke, took the laptop without paying for it and left the store.
Charges were filed at Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier's office, Orwigsburg.
Both Avery and Price were involved in other retail thefts in Columbia County and are incarcerated in the Columbia County Prison.
Police cite 2
in disturbance
MAHANOY CITY - Mahanoy City police responded Friday to a disturbance in the borough.
At 9:50 p.m., police went to 509 W. Centre St. and heard two women arguing 1 1/2 blocks away.
Tosha M. Sperlbaum, 27, and Charlene M. Lower, 47, both of Mahanoy City were cited for disorderly conduct for fighting and making unreasonable noise, police said.
Lower received a citation for public drunkeness.
Weatherly man
faces charges
TAMAQUA - Rush Township police stopped a man in the borough Tuesday after show signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Lucas L. Coxe, 34, of Weatherly, was stopped on Claremont Avenue after displaying signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Coxe was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street for a blood test.
Coxe also faces a carge of possession of marijuana, police said.

egg throwing
SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - Police are investigating incidents that occurred this week in the borough in which someone threw eggs at two vehicles.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said someone threw eggs between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at 154 S. Greenview Road in North Manheim Township.
A 2000 copper colored Chevrolet Silverado owned by Clyde Riegel and a 1994 black Chevrolet Silverado owned by Leroy Riegel had eggs thrown at the back of the windshield while they were parked in front of the residence, police said..
Those with information are asked to call state police at Schuylkill Haven at 570-739-1330.
