Forest award
Auburn Boy Scout Troop 651 members Dylan Reber, Pottsville, Jonathan Schatz, Schuylkill Haven, Tadd Shiffer Jr., Pine Grove, and Bryce Orloski, Bethlehem, received the forest conservation award.
The award is bestowed to a Scout that has earned the forestry merit badge and two related badges such as bird study, weather, insect study, wilderness survival, wood carving and nature, to name a few.
Frank P. Snyder, service forester for the Bureau of Forestry, state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and the boys' scoutmaster, Kenneth S. Reber, Cressona, presented the awards to Orloski and Schatz at the troop's court of honor that was held at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, near Auburn, on May 4. Reber and Shiffer were not present for the presentation.
Snyder, service forester for the Weiser Forest District of DNCR, said the Scouts earned the forestry merit badge. Orloski also earned environmental science and plant science merit badges, Reber earned nature and orienteering merit badges, Schatz earned nature and orienteering merit badges and Shiffer earned environmental science and pulp and paper merit badges.
