Alvernia

Four local residents earned master's degrees this month from Alvernia University's School of Graduate and Adult Education. They include: Heather Dixon-Brock, Auburn, community counseling; Lucas McMurtrie, Pottsville, education; Gina Smith, Pottsville, education; Maia Frederick, Hamburg, nursing.

The following local residents earned bachelor's degrees and graduated from Alvernia University main campus, Reading:

Amanda Cannon, Pottsville, cum laude, criminal justice; Judith Vacula, Tamaqua, liberal studies; Nicole Tag, Hamburg, liberal studies; Tami-Lynn Bretz, Hamburg, liberal studies; Amy Wisser, Hamburg, marketing; Sheri Kaufman, Pine Grove, magna cum laude, middle level education in mathematics and English, language and reading, and Kaufman also addressed the Class of 2014 as the selected student speaker; Corine Briel, Ashland, psychology; Michele Fetco, Mahanoy City, psychology; Fajjr Khan, Schuylkill Haven, summa cum laude, theater, and Fajjr and classmate Kerry Cain performed the national anthem at commencement; Tylor Austerberry, Pottsville, business management and corporate communication; Katelin Hummel, Andreas, forensic science; Dillon Emery, Locustdale, magna cum laude, sport management; Jacob Cotroneo, Auburn, sport management; Carla Page, Ashland, nursing; Crystal Zimmerman, Pine Grove, summa cum laude, nursing; Lauren Sheehan, Port Carbon, nursing.

Students who earned degrees at Alvernia's Schuylkill Center include: Samantha Henninger, Schuylkill Haven, criminal justice and behavioral health; Loretta Miree, Schuylkill Haven, cum laude, business management, and Miree also served as the ceremonial tassel turner at commencement; Mark Denchy, Pottsville, magna cum laude, business management.

Wilkes

Eliza Daubert, Pine Grove, is one of 24 Wilkes University 2014 doctor of pharmacy graduates who will pursue post-graduate training.

Eliza will pursue a fellowship in clinical research and drug development at University of North Carolina and GlaxoSmithKline, Chapel Hill, N.C. Post-graduate training in the pharmacy field includes residencies, fellowships and doctorate programs.
