n Schuylkill Haven: Penn State Night at the Fightin' Phils is set for July 28 at First Energy Stadium, Reading. The first pitch will be thrown at 6:05 p.m. The Penn State Schuylkill Alumni Society has partnered with several neighboring chapters of the Penn State Alumni Society to sponsor the event. The fee is $25, which includes a game ticket and admission to the third-base picnic area. It includes a 2 1/2-hour all-you-can-eat buffet of barbecued ribs, chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, vegetable lasagna, mac and cheese, side dishes, cookies and Pepsi products. Wine, spirits and beer will be available on a cash basis. Children ages 4 may participate for free. The public also is welcome to participate. n Shenandoah: More than 150 members and guests of the Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motorized Fire Apparatus of America will visit the Schuylkill Historical Fire Society Museum, 105 S. Jardin St., on Aug. 1. The visit will begin at noon. According to Mike Kitsock, SHFS president, the visitors will be from throughout the United States and Canada who will attend the SPAAMFAA convention in the Philadelphia area. For the visit, SHFS will have displays of its antique fire apparatus collection in and around the museum and will feature exhibits and demonstrations. A team of Percheron fire horses will also be hitched to several of the horse-drawn units during the event, which is open to the public. Refreshments will be available, Kitsock said in a press release.
n Tamaqua: The Tamaqua Citizens Advisory Committee will meet from 11 a.m. to noon July 18 in borough hall, 320 E. Broad St. The committee meets the third Thursday of the month.
n Tamaqua: The 10th annual Zoo Crew Putt and Brew is set for July 20 at Heisler's Dairy Bar, Lewistown Valley, to benefit the "Zoostock" total for the Carbon/Tamaqua Unit of the American Cancer Society. The $25 cost includes entry in the noon tournament at Heisler's as well as the food, beverages and entertainment at the post-tournament picnic from 2 to 5 p.m. at The Infamous Sports Zoo in Lansford, according to a press release from Ann Marie Calabrese. Entertainment will be by Cody Scott Sassaman. People can sign up foursomes at The Zoo, at Hiles Bros. Plumbing, Heating and Fuel Co. or by calling Calabrese at 570-290-8089. Teams of four will be needed to participate. For people who want to attend the post-tourney picnic only, the cost is $15. Advance registration is required. If Heisler's must close due to inclement weather, the picnic will still be held at The Zoo and all paid participants will get a free mini golf pass. Team spirit and other awards will be given and costumes are encouraged, Calabrese said. Hole sponsorships are available for $25 each and must be paide by July 15.
