Man arrested for

threat with gun

A city man was arrested Wednesday after Pottsville police received a report of a man threatening a woman with a handgun.

Pottsville police said the 2:57 p.m. incident at 1740 W. Norwegian St. in the city involved John M. Krisa Jr., 39, and an unidentified woman who went to the home of Vanessa Vandermeer, 33, and her live-in boyfriend, Darwin Knight.

Vandermeer told police that Krisa and the unidentified woman came because of an ongoing issue, and Krisa started shouting obscenities while demanding to see Knight, who was not present.

Police said Krisa got into a vehicle and, while sitting, banged a handgun on the passenger side window in a manner that Vandermeer said was threatening.

A witness in the Vandermeer home and a neighbor confirmed much of what took place, police said.

A Schuylkill County sheriff's deputy stopped a white BMW driven by Krisa in the 400 block of East Norwegian Street after the man left the scene.

A Smith and Wesson .22-caliber handgun was recovered when Krisa was taken into custody, police said.

Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, arraigned Krisa on a felony charge of firearms not to be carried without a license, a misdemeanor of recklessly endangering another person and misdemeanor of persistent disorderly conduct. He was released by Plachko on $10,000 unsecured bail pending a preliminary hearing.
