MCADOO - Borough police arrested a man accused of stabbing his sister late Saturday night.

Borough police said the 19-year-old woman was found stabbed in the 200 block of South Cleveland Street, at about 10:45 p.m. Her name has not been released.

As police investigated, they found Ralph Luchetta Jr., 27, of McAdoo, admitted to stabbing the woman two to three times with a pair of brass knuckles that had a knife attached to them, borough police Chief Jeff Wainwright said.

He was charged with various offenses including criminal attempt at homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault and tampering with evidence, Wainwright said.

Luchetta was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker, Shenandoah, who set bail at $100,000. Unable to post that, Luchetta was taken to jail, Wainwright said.

Patrolman Steven Homanko said he was working Saturday evening and at about 10:40 p.m. he was dispatched to a report of a stabbing victim at the home after the victim's unidentified friend called for help. The victim, Homanko said, was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton and later flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest where she underwent at least two surgeries and was listed in stable condition as of late Sunday afternoon.

Wainwright said as police investigated they found the victim got into a verbal confrontation with Luchetta that escalated into a physical fight. A struggle ensued, Wainwright said, and Luchetta stabbed the victim on her left side in her abdomen before fleeing the home and ditching the weapon under a camper in the neighborhood.

Luchetta, Homanko said, was found at a friend's home about 60 feet away from where the assault took place. He was taken into custody there without incident.

Police recovered the weapon, Wainwright said, and upon interviewing Luchetta said he admitted to stabbing his sister.

Wainwright said no other injuries were reported.

State police at Frackville and Rush Township police assisted. McAdoo Ambulance, American Patient Transport Systems Inc. and McAdoo Fire Company responded.
