n Ashland: Overeaters Anonymous and the Al-Anon Family Group meet on Mondays at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, rear entrance, 35 N. Ninth St. The former group meets from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. and the latter, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
n Ashland: The Shepherd's Table free meal is set for 3 to 5 p.m. Dec. 11 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 35 N. Ninth St. Use the rear entrance. Shepherd's Tables are held monthly on the second Wednesday.
n Barnesville: The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. meet at 1 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at the Ryan Township Fire Company, Route 54. RR&D members usually play bingo and cards following their regular business meetings. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.
n Buckhorn: A program called Wheelchair Engineers, featuring wheelchair-accessible model train layouts, goes from noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays at the Columbia Mall. Master craftsman Earl Wagner provides free instruction to children and adults to expand the layout. Instruction and materials are free.
n Lansford: The Panther Valley Public Library, 117 E. Bertsch St., continues to offer free preschool story hours from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays. Stories, snacks and activities are provided for the children.
n McAdoo: The McAdoo Fire Company's annual Operation Santa Claus will be held Dec. 5 to 8. Members will take Santa around on a decorated sleigh. Reservations can be made by calling Tony Vigna at 570-929-2642. The deadline for reservations, which are required, is Nov. 25. Company members will call everyone back with the date and time of the visit shortly after the deadline.
n Mount Carmel: The Mount Carmel Historical Society will meet at 1 p.m. Nov. 30 at the Mount Carmel Area Public Library. Nominations and election of officers will be held. All interested people are invited to attend.
n Orwigsburg: The Orwigsburg Festival of Lights, sponsored by the borough, bicentennial committee, the Lions Club and Orwigsburg area churches, will be held Dec. 7. As a final send off, organizers will bring the community's bicentennial to the annual holiday showcase. Carolers in period clothing will entertain Orwigsburg residents and old-time skills and trades will be showcased in center square. Everyone is welcome.
n Quakake: The Quakake Volunteer Fire Company stages bingo games on the third Wednesday of the month in the firehouse. Doors open at 5 p.m. and games begin at 6 p.m. Proceeds benefit the company. Everyone is welcome.
n Saint Clair: The arrival of Santa Claus and lighting of the community Christmas tree are set for 5 p.m. Dec. 1 at Admiral Boone Park, Third Street. Children will be able to visit with Santa in the hall of St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Parish, Hancock and Mill streets, after the tree lighting. A Christmas program by the vocal group Sounds of Heaven will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 8 in the former St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church, Lawton and Nichols streets.
n Shenandoah: A free "Kitchen Kettle" meal is available from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. the third Saturday of the month at Restoration Fellowship Church, 201 W. Oak St. All are welcome.
n Tamaqua: The Needlebugs knitting and quilting group gathers from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Monday at the Tamaqua Salvation Army center, 105 W. Broad St. New participants are welcome. For more information, call 570-668-0410.
n Tamaqua: The Tamaqua Salvation Army has closed registration for families in need of holiday help this year. This includes holiday food baskets, Toys for Tots and the Angel Tree programs. However, a makeup date for additional registrations has been scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 6. Proper identification and proof of need will be required. Registrants must provide proof of residence, such as a utility bill; Social Security cards for every household member; proof of all household income, including employment/wages, public assistance, food stamps, Social Security/SSI and any other type of income; official birth certificates for anyone under 12; expenses, such as rent/mortgage, utilities, food and medical and a working phone number. The Salvation Army center is at 105 W. Broad St.
