So you think things slow down in the fall? Au contraire. Schuylkill County has a calendar full of events for every taste.
Feeling like some soothing live concert music? The Gabriel Chamber Ensemble will be presenting Mozart, Brahms and other masters at 3 p.m. today at the Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Schuylkill Haven. Guest artist is pianist Xun Pan.
The Sovereign Majestic in Pottsville will present a movie geared toward seniors at 10 a.m. Wednesday. There will be free admission and popcorn. "A Bug's Life" will be featured at 7 p.m. Saturday. Movies are hosted by the Pottsville Recreation Commission and sponsored by M&T Bank.
The need for blood donations doesn't slow down in the fall either. There's an urgent need for blood types O negative, A negative and B negative. Drives will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Mahanoy City Monday, and at the Minersville's Good Shepherd Building, the Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Schuylkill Haven and at the Pine Grove Ambulance Thursday. St. John's UCC in Tamaqua will also host a drive Friday. Everyone who is in general good health who weighs at least 110 pounds is encouraged to give. One donation can save up to three lives. What a great gift.
Sweet Arrow Lake invites you to an evening of pumpkin decorating. The free program is suitable for teens and adults. Decorate your pumpkins in the not-so-usual way. Supplies are provided. Call 345-8952 for details.
Mark your calendars for Schuylkill Haven Borough Day Sept. 26. The event features free entertainment, food, crafts and train rides. In other words, great fun.
There are still projects available for adoption for Make A Difference Day. If you'd like to "adopt" a project that's looking for some kind folks to complete, want a list of general ideas or are ready to register your own event, contact me. You can also find the registration form by clicking the MADDay logo on our website at www.schuylkill.us/cvia. No project is too small and every effort helps someone. The event takes place around Saturday, Oct. 26, but now's the time to plan. I'm here to help you to help others.
