CRESSONA - A Pottsville man died in a two-vehicle crash at 4:55 p.m. Wednesday on Route 61 north at the Cressona Mall intersection.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said James Gorski, 65, was pronounced dead at the scene by a Schuylkill County deputy coroner.

Police said Gorski was driving a black 2001 Volkswagen Jetta south on Route 61 in the left turn lane and turned toward Seven Stars Road into the path of a black 2004 Ford F-250 in the northbound lane by Thomas Salvadora, 38, of Shenandoah.

Salvadora could not stop and struck the passenger side of Gorski's car. Both vehicles traveled about 100 feet before coming to rest in the northbound lanes of Route 61.

Police said Salvadora was not injured.

Route 61 was shut down for a time and traffic was detoured around the area.

At 8 p.m., Schuylkill County Coroner David Moylan confirmed that one person was killed in the crash and said that an autopsy will be conducted today.

Police are investigating the crash.

Also on the scene was Schuylkill Haven police, Schuylkill Haven Fire Company and Goodwill Hose Company, Cressona.
