n McAdoo: The borough's bulk pickups will continue until Sept. 30. Pickups are scheduled for Sept. 16, 23 and 30. One bulk item per week is allowed. Bulk items may not include any electrical items such as TVs or computers, tires, concrete, bricks, shingles, water heaters, batteries of any kind, air conditioners, paint cans with wet paint inside and hazardous materials. Residents are encouraged to cooperate by following the guidelines and schedules. Those in violation will be issued citations if needed.

n Ringtown: The Ringtown Area Library will sponsor a bus trip to New York City on Nov. 16 for a day on your own. The bus will depart from Ringtown at 7 a.m. and from NYC at 7 p.m. for the return trip. The cost is $40 per person and payment in full is required to reserve a seat. n Shenandoah: In conjunction with the Schuylkill County Fall Cleanup, the borough will provide residents with collection assistance, borough Manager Joseph L. Palubinsky said in a release. Any resident wanting to dispose of scrap tires, appliances, chairs, sofas and other bulky items must register in advance at borough hall, Washington and Main streets. Registration is under way and will end Sept. 20. The only fees charged will be those set by the county for the type of material being disposed. Collection and delivery of the items to the host site will be provided free by the borough. Items for disposal must be placed at curbside. The scheduled dates for collection are Sept. 19, 20 and 26. Palubinsky stressed that residents wishing to take advantage of the service must register to schedule the pickup.

n Tamaqua: An American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 20 at St. John United Church of Christ, Pine Street. Anyone 17 or older, weighing at least 110 pounds and in good general health is eligible to donate blood. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, call 800-733-2767.

n Tamaqua: The Tamaqua YMCA is accepting registrations for fall swim lessons and for the 2013-14 Jack and Jill Preschool program. Applications are available at the Y welcome center in the former Jamesway Plaza. Swim lessons will begin on Monday. For more information about the preschool program, call 570-668-2903.

n Tamaqua: The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has activities planned for September, including the monthly birthday party on Wednesday. Other activities include craft day Friday, show and tell Monday, musical entertainment with Audrey Christ Wednesday, cooking class Sept. 23, a Salvation Army service Sept. 25 and magic beans mosaics Sept. 26. Upcoming fundraisers include the Boscov's Friends Helping Friends event on Oct. 22. Weekly activities include sing-alongs, exercise sessions, a variety of therapies and social games. The center, with advance notice, also provides for hairstyling and manicure service. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are served daily. n Tamaqua: The 17th annual Land of the Running Water Marching Band Adjudication will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 21 in the Tamaqua Area High School Sports Stadium. Gates will open at 5 p.m. General admission is $5. The Tamaqua Area Raider Marching Band will host the event. Marching bands from the following regional high schools will participate: Annville-Cleona, Bangor, Emmaus, Exeter Township, Mahanoy Area, Minersville Area, Nativity BVM, Panther Valley, Pottsville Area, Shenandoah Valley, Southern Lehigh, Tri-Valley and Wilson.

n Valley View: The Valley View Fire Company will hold a wing night from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday. Patrons may eat in the fire hall or take meals out. The company will stage a fall craft and vendor fair from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 26 at the firehouse. Food and refreshments will be on sale and up to 40 vendors are expected. The company sponsors all-you-can-eat breakfasts from 6 to 11 a.m. the third Sunday of the month through March. All event are open to the public.
