n Ashland: The Ashland Area Rotary Club recently hosted the official visit by Rotary District 7360 Governor David A. Ford, a member of the Bloomsburg Rotary Club, during a gathering at The Mineshaft Cafe, Ashland. Assistant Governor Brad Oravitz introduced Ford to the assemblage that included Rotarians from the Shenandoah, Ringtown, Mahanoy City, Frackville and Ashland clubs. Ford, according to the Rotary bulletin, stressed Rotary International President Ravi Ravidran’s theme for this year, “Be a Gift to the World.” For the past 30 years, a major priority of Rotary has been the eradication of polio in the world. What was a major worldwide scourge has now been reduced to only 26 cases this year to date in only two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Nigeria has had no cases this year, according to the bulletin. Ford said it is a “great accomplishment” and the effort is “very close to complete eradication of the crippling disease.” He also spoke about membership growth with a goal of increasing membership in District 7360 to 2,800 Rotarians by the end of his term. He encouraged all members to tell a potential member about Rotary and to invite the person to attend a club meeting. He also stressed participation by all members to become sustaining members in The Rotary Foundation by contributing at least $100 per year to the foundation to further Rotary projects worldwide.

n Ashland: The Ashland Area Rotary Club will sponsor the semi-annual Schuylkill Keep It Pretty campaign for Ashland, a task it has undertaken for many years. After the cleanup there will be light refreshments for participants.

Admission is $10 for people 13 and older and $5 for children 6 to 12 and current museum members. Children 5 and under are permitted for free. The rain date is Sept. 27.

n Frackville: The Frackville Museum, located in the Frackville Municipal & Community Center, 42 S. Centre St., has created a DVD that offers a look back to the town’s early days plus scenes from the museum from its opening in 2011 through July 2015. A short trailer can be viewed at https://youtu.be/mcLb5bsftOo. People unable to buy a copy – they are $20 each – at the museum when it is open may call Lorraine Stanton at 570-874-2814. The DVD can be mailed to people who send a check for $25 (which includes postage and mailing) to the museum. All proceeds from the sale of the DVDs will go to the museum.
