A former Pottsville woman charged in May with operating a methamphetamine lab in her city home was among those scheduled to plead not guilty Monday during arraignment in Schuylkill County Court.
Margaret A. Ney, 61, who now lists an address of 35 Silver Creek Road, New Philadelphia, was arrested by Pottsville police and charged with manufacture with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possessing chemicals with intent to manufacture, conspiracy, risking a catastrophe, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The arrest was the result of a criminal investigation police were involved in, as well as one for city code violations, including no electricity and no running water at Ney’s 218 N. 12th St. home.
Officers went to the home and uncovered evidence in the basement that the residents allegedly used to manufacture methamphetamine. A state police Clandestine Lab Response Team safely removed the items from the home.
Police said Ney purchased various chemicals and other items needed to manufacture methamphetamine and used a technique commonly known as a “one-pot method.”
Police said 32 used “one-pot” containers were recovered by the CLRT members along with other residual liquids and byproducts.
Ney was also scheduled to appear Monday to plead not guilty to a charge of conspiracy as a result of the illegal operation.
