MINERSVILLE — Construction of the Minersville Area Skate Park has been completed and it will be open to the public sometime this fall.
The Minersville Area Skate Park Association is awaiting insurance to open the park, Bobbie Domlesky, the association secretary, said.
“The insurance situation is not good at this point,” she said at the association’s meeting Monday.
Domlesky said they were having difficulty getting a quote from insurance companies.
Upon opening day, construction crews will return to the site to polish it up and remove forms from the ramps.
The association discussed a possible list of rules to be posted on the site. They would be on a sign donated by Dutcavich Funeral Home.
Rules discussed to likely be posted include: Ride at your own risk; safety equipment required; no tobacco, drugs, or alcohol; hours from dawn to dusk; skate respectfully; acts of vandalism will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law; the park will be closed during inclement weather; and no trespassing when the park is closed.
The association will be attending the 19th annual Minersville Spirit Day on Sept. 7 with glitter tattoos and a bean bag toss game as well as baskets to raffle off, according to Frannie Mickey, the association treasurer.
Baskets will be raffled off at 3 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Good Will Fire Company. Last-minute ticket sales will be held from noon until 3 p.m. Baskets are valued from $25 to more than $500 and include donations from Weis Markets, Subway, Lowe’s, Ken’s Tire, Palermos and Disney with one-day hopper passes.
In other business, the association has about $6,254 in its bank account and about $276 in cash for a total of $6,531.16.
The association received $3,036.96 in the past month from donations, dues and fundraisers.
Expenditures for the month were mostly for buying concrete, for a total of $16,134.78.
