There will be a show on the ground and in the air Saturday as Saint Clair hosts its annual car cruise and fireworks display.
Robert Petrozino, cruise volunteer and the borough's electric department superintendent, said a car show was added to this year's festivities. The cars registered for the cruise will line up on Second Street until the start of the cruise at 6 p.m. Registration will begin at 2 p.m. on Second Street.
In previous years, registration was held in Industrial Park. Petrozino said they wanted to move the event to a more public location to show off the borough's assets.
"I'm trying to get more people to visit our town, see what Saint Clair is," Petrozino said.
He said businesses and restaurants will be open during the show, with entertainment provided by a disc jockey.
Petrozino hopes to have 200 cars for this year's show and cruise. Last year, he said the event pulled in 260 participants.
Petrozino said there are no restrictions for entries.
"If it puts a smile on someone's face, it will probably put a smile on someone else's face," Petrozino said.
Proceeds from the car show and cruise benefit Teener Baseball.
The cruise will conclude at 8 p.m., just in time for the fireworks display.
Val Davis, publicity chairwoman for the Saint Clair Community and Historical Society, said the fireworks are scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. from Veterans Memorial Stadium. Gates will open at 8 p.m.
Davis said several hundred people will come out to the borough to watch the show, with many viewing from the Wal-Mart parking lot.
She said many people can fit in the stadium for the show, which is the ideal viewing location. Patriotic music will play at the stadium to coincide with the show.
"It's an experience to be there with the music. It's really great," Davis said.
The annual show is sponsored by the Saint Clair Community and Historical Society. Davis said members of the organization will be canvassing the streets during the event for donations.
She said it's special that people and businesses are willing to give money to keep the popular show running every year.
"The people like them. They say they haven't seen them as nice as ours. Little ol' Saint Clair," Davis said.
The fireworks display has been a tradition in Saint Clair since 2000 when the borough celebrated its sesquicentennial, Davis said.
