Prime Time Health will be featuring a unique walking event Wednesday. Stroll the Pottsville walking path and then enjoy a poetry reading at the Yuengling Park. Park at the parking area across from McCann's School of Message, hike the path, then drive to the park. Call 570-624-3010 for details.

Schuylkill On the Move invites you to join them on two scenic hikes next week. The easy, four-mile Tremont Trail Trek will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. July 13 at the old railroad line in Echo Valley in the area known as "three mountains." Meet at the Behm's Family Restaurant parking lot on Route 125 just outside of Tremont.

If you aren't available for that one, they'll host a moderate, eight-mile walk to Silver Creek Fire Tower. Join Tuscarora Environmental Educator Robin Tracey on a jaunt through the beauty of Locust Lake State Park to the historic tower. Meet in the Locust Lake visitor parking lot.

Call 570-622-4124 for details on either hike.

Have you marked your calendar yet for the Shenandoah Heritage Day and Parade of Nations? The event begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23. The borough will come alive with colors, sights and sounds. There will be more than 20 nations represented in the parade. The festivities include live music, ethnic foods, crafts and games.

In addition to being used for emergency blood needs, your donation of fresh blood can help people during surgery or to prepare for up-coming surgical procedures or aid those who have low iron or blood counts. Technicians can also separate your blood into components - red blood cells, platelets and plasma - that can save the lives of up to three people.

Everyone in general good health who weighs at least 110 pounds is encouraged to donate. Here's a list of summer blood drives for your convenience: July 16 at the Tamaqua Salvation Army, July 19 at the Fairlane Village Mall, July 21 at the Pine Grove Ambulance, July 24 at the Good Shepherd Building in Minersville, July 24 at the Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Schuylkill Haven, Aug. 4 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Frackville, Aug. 11 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Pottsville, and Aug. 12 at the Ringtown Valley Fire and Rescue Company Station 2.
