Scout scholarship

Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania announced that Hannah Winn, Pine Grove, has received The Schuylkill County Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 for continued education at the 2014 Gold Award Ceremony at Milton Hershey High School, Hershey.

Hannah was chosen for the scholarship in recognition for her high level of academic achievement and outstanding successful track record as a Girl Scout. One particular example of her success as a Girl Scout was her 2014 Gold Award Project. Hannah organized a cleaning supply drive for the Pine Grove Area Food Bank low-income families. She collected and distributed more than 100 bags of cleaning supplies to local families.

Hannah has been a Girl Scout for 12 years and has been active in her high school. She was in the school's marching band, co-captain of the Quiz Bowl team, vice president of the Foreign Languages Club, a member of National Honor Society and stage manager for the school's musicals. She will attend Penn State University, University Park campus, and study environmental sciences and French.

Hannah is a graduate of Pine Grove Area High School.

Juried art

Audrey Bordonaro and Kris Miller-Siple have had the honor of having paintings juried into the New Arts Program in Kutztown. Both are studio artists at Walk In Art Center, Schuylkill Haven.

The juried art will be displayed at the 25th annual International Invitational Salon of Small Works show at the New Arts Gallery, 173 W. Main St., Kutztown.

Bordonaro studied interior design at the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York, and received her bachelor's degree in art education at Indiana University of Pa. She did her graduate studies in fine art at Kutztown University and was an art educator for 19 years with the Blue Mountain School District. Her work has been shown in several juried art shows, among them the Art of the State in the State Museum, Harrisburg, and the Berks Art Alliance Juried Show, Reading.

Miller-Siple received her bachelor's degree in art education from Kutztown University. She has taught art at all levels in public and private schools throughout Schuylkill County and has also had her work in several exhibitions and art shows including the Art Association of Harrisburg Juried Members Show and Berks Art Alliance Members Shows.

Faculty awards

Dr. Paul C. Lynch, a faculty member in the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Penn State University, University Park campus, was named the 2013 outstanding faculty member in the Industrial Engineering Department. He also received the 2014 PSEAS Outstanding Advising Award in the College of Engineering at Penn State.

Lynch was recently named a 2014 ASEE Air Force Summer Faculty Fellow. He will complete an eight-week summer faculty research experience with the Air Force at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.

A 2000 graduate of North Schuylkill High School, he is a son of Barbara A. Lynch, Gordon, and the late Charles R. Lynch.
