Police charge 2

of Wal-Mart theft

HOMETOWN - Rush Township police said two people are facing charges of retail theft after an incident Sunday at Wal-Mart.

Police said Brenda Hosler, 48, and Jacob Adamitis, 34, both of Coaldale, will have to answer to the charges before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua.

Police said Adamitis stole an item valued at $6.97, while Hosler stole items valued at $14.64.

Driver, passenger

charged for drugs

HOMETOWN - Michael Stisowain, 18, of Hometown, is facing charges of DUI-controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after a vehicle he was driving was stopped about 2:30 a.m. Sunday on Tide Road.

In addition, Quintin Sabol, Tamaqua, a passenger in the vehicle, is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine and possession of drug charges, police said.

Charges against all two will be filed with Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua.

Police investigate

copper wire theft

HOMETOWN - Rush Township police are investigating a theft and burglary that occurred at Elk Lighting on Lincoln Drive sometime Friday night or Saturday morning.

Police said someone stole copper wires and fled the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 570-668-4242.

Argument ends

in shots, charges

NEWKIRK - A 19-year-old Tamaqua man will be charged with recklessly endangering another person after an incident about 2:45 p.m. June 15 in the 600 block of Old Route 209 in this Schuylkill Township village.

State police at Frackville said David Hartranft became involved in an argument with his father, Joseph Hartranft, 53, and after the argument fired multiple rounds from a .22 caliber rifle from the backyard of 616 Old Route 209 toward 414 and 602 Old Route 209 that endangered Joel Farber, 32, and a 4-year-old girl.

Kingston man

charged with theft

CRESSONA - A 32-year-old Kingston man was arrested by state police at Schuylkill Haven and charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property after an incident about 1 p.m. May 19 at Ollies Bargain Outlet in North Manheim Township.

Police said Ryan Verbitsky removed an air conditioner from the store without paying for it.

Charges against Verbitsky were filed with Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier, Orwigsburg, police said.

Auburn man

faces DUI charge

Jason Hine, 36, of Auburn, was charged with DUI on Route 901, west of Glenworth Road, at 2:25 a.m. June 8.

Schuylkill Haven police said Hine was observed crossing the eastbound lane fog line numerous times. A traffic stop was initiated and Hine showed signs of impairment.

Hine performed field sobriety tests and was taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street for a blood-alcohol test. Charges were filed in the court of District Magisterial Judge James R. Ferrier, Orwigsburg.

Woman faces

DUI charges

A Minersville woman was charged with DUI at 2:24 a.m. June 14 on Maple Avenue, west of Westwood Road.

Schuylkill Haven police said Heidi Luna, 32, was observed weaving within her lane and crossing the center line of Maple Avenue. A traffic stop was initiated and Luna showed signs of impairment.

Luna performed filed sobriety tests at the scene and was transported to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street for a blood-alcohol test.

Charges were filed in the court of Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon.

Rig damages 5

cars; no injuries

ORWIGSBURG - A six-vehicle crash occurred at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Christopher Reber, 48, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 2000 Freightliner tractor with a JHM trailer was traveling north on Route 61 when he veered to the right and struck the guide rail, damaging 135 feet of it, and then hit a PPL utility pole.

The vehicle continued traveling north into the Deer Lake Auto parking lot, damaging five parked vehicles. There were no injuries and Reber was wearing a seat belt.

Schuylkill Haven police were assisted at the scene by Deer Lake and Schuylkill Haven fire companies.

Police investigate

stolen luggage

AUBURN - A 41-year-old man's luggage was stolen from outside his residence between 3 p.m. June 15 and 8 p.m. June 20.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said that Brian Mannon, Auburn, accidentally left three pieces of luggage outside of his residence when he left for vacation, which were gone when he returned. The luggage contained various personal items along with clothing, jewelry and medication.

The investigation is ongoing.
