Marian
Matthew Karnish, a student at Marian High School, Hometown, received notification that he achieved the rank of section winner of the chemistry exam given by the American Chemical Society.
Fewer than 10 percent of chemistry students in the Susquehanna Valley Chapter of the American Chemical Society are nominated. Schools are divided into geographic regions for the exams. Marian's region includes students from public and private schools from Wilkes-Barre, Nanticoke, Mountaintop and Hazleton.
Winners were honored at a banquet held May 7 at Links and Hemlock Creek Restaurant, Bloomsburg.
Matthew has been a consistent honor roll student from his freshman year. He is a member and vice president of student council, green club, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and the track, football and basketball teams. He is an altar server at his parish of Ss. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, Tamaqua.
He is a son of Gary and Chris Karnish, Nesquehoning.
McCann
The allied health students at the Pottsville Campus of McCann School of Business & Technology passed programmatic National Health Career Association certifications. The students who successfully passed the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant exam include: Ronae Kane, Chandra Muldowney and Angela Troiani, all of Pottsville; Alyssa Smith, Lavelle, and Ashley Zelinsky, Orwigsburg.
Local students who successfully passed the Certified Phlebotomy Technician exam are: Briana Crochunis, Middleport; Christina Gilbert, Cressona, and Tara Zimmerman, Jonestown.
