Walmart gives cash bonuses
Walmart hourly associates in Pennsylvania have received another special cash bonus in their paychecks, adding up to more than $13 million statewide, according to a Walmart release.
The bonus, the third in less than three months, gave $300 to full-time hourly associates and drivers, $150 to part-time hourly and temporary associates and $400 to assistant managers. Associates must be employed by the company as of June 5 to qualify, which includes new associates who joined Walmart as part of the company’s recent hiring commitment.

Pediatric ER zone at Geisinger
DANVILLE — Young patients will have a more positive experience in Geisinger Medical Center’s newly created child-friendly zone for pediatric emergencies, according to a Geisinger press release.
Designed to calm and ease the minds of children and their families, the pediatric zone is staffed 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
“Children are not little adults. Their illnesses, injury patterns and developmental needs are different than that of adults. In the pediatrics zone everything is focused on the child ...” Dr. Sarah Alander, director pediatric emergency services, said in the release.
The pediatric emergency team diagnoses and treats a range of emergencies. Its trained staff also works with general pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists at the Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital.

SBA announces disaster loans
To further meet the needs of U.S. small businesses and nonprofits, the federal Small Business Administration has reopened the Economic Injury Disaster Loan and EIDL Advance program portal to all eligible applicants experiencing economic impacts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The loans, according to a release, can provide vital economic support to help alleviate temporary loss of revenue.
EIDL assistance can be used to cover payroll and inventory, pay debt or fund other expenses.
Additionally, the EIDL Advance will provide up to $10,000 ($1,000 per employee) of emergency economic relief to businesses that are currently experiencing temporary difficulties, and these emergency grants do not have to be repaid.
