ORWIGSBURG - A Carbon County man is headed to Schuylkill County Court after waiving his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday on charges he was driving under the influence in March in West Penn Township.
John G. Glassic, 31, of 195 Creekside Manor Drive, Lehighton, faces charges of DUI and failure to obey traffic control devices, with prosecutors withdrawing two counts of prohibited possession of an offensive weapon and one of speeding.
Magisterial District Judge James R. Ferrier bound over the first two charges for the county court after Glassic waived his right to the hearing.
West Penn Township police alleged Glassic was DUI to the extent that he could not drive safely and was traveling 83.9 mph in a 45 mph zone, at 9:22 p.m. March 16 northbound in a 2013 Kia Optima on Route 309 in South Tamaqua.
Police said they smelled alcohol on Glassic, who admitted drinking 10 to 12 beers and refused to take a blood alcohol test at St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale.
Glassic is free on $1,000 unsecured bail pending further court proceedings.
Other defendants whose cases Ferrier considered on Tuesday, the charges against each one and the judge's dispositions of the matters included:
Thomas S. McGee Jr., 61, of 1433 Summer Hill Road, Auburn; DUI, disregarding traffic lane and careless driving; right to preliminary hearing waived, charges bound over for court.
Steven C. Steffie, 25, of 426 Pleasant St., Minersville; DUI, careless driving and two counts each of failure to keep right, disregarding traffic lane and failure to drive at a safe speed; right to preliminary hearing waived, careless driving charge withdrawn, other charges bound over for court.
