n Hegins: The Hegins Area Ambulance Association has kicked off its annual subscription campaign with subscription mailings to all residents and businesses in its coverage area, which includes Hegins and Hubley townships and Barry Township west of Route 901. People are asked to complete the applications and mail it along with the appropriate amount due in the enclosed envelope. People should not send cash. The subscription rate is $20 per individual and $30 per family. Anyone who does not receive a subscription application in the mail should call 570-682-3598 and leave a message. The enrollment period ends May 31. Subscriptions mailed after June 15 will be subject to a 30-day waiting period, except for those residents who have just moved into the coverage area.

n Hometown: Marian High School will sponsor a dance featuring The Fabulous Greaseband from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. May 17 in the school gymnasium. Advance tickets are $15 and tickets at the door will be $18. Food and beverages will be on sale. n Pottsville: The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 413 will hold its monthly meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Yorkville Hose Company, 20th and West Norwegian streets.

n Pottsville: A Disability Rights Network of PA free presentation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Pottsville Free Public Library, 215 W. Market St. Network staff will focus on their services and work to advance, protect and advocate for the rights of Pennsylvanians with disabilities, according to a library press release. n Pottsville: The American Red Cross Schuylkill Chapter Disaster Action Team responded Wednesday to a single-family fire on North Front Street in Saint Clair. The team, according to a Red Cross press release, provided four adults with food, lodging and clothing and will continue to follow up with the victims as needed. The team is looking for additional volunteers. "For individuals and families who have been personally affected by a fire or disaster, the offer of a warm blanket, the means to purchase food and clothing, lodging, personal hygiene items like those found in a comfort kit, even a stuffed animal for a child, can make all the difference for a hopeful tomorrow." n Ringtown: The Ringtown Valley Fire and Rescue Company will hold an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday at the firehouse, 46 W. Main St. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12. The menu will include sausage, bacon, scrapple, mackerel, creamed chipped beef on toast, eggs, home fries, French toast, pancakes, toast, coffee, tea, fruit punch, orange juice and water. n Tamaqua: The Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network will sponsor a Hunger Walk on May 18 to help local families in need. The walk will be the culmination of the May 17-18 Hunger Weekend, when organizations, businesses, church groups and individuals are encouraged to collect food and money to benefit the food banks at the Tamaqua Salvation Army and Trinity United Church of Christ. The walk will begin and end at St. Luke's Tamaqua Family Practice parking lot, South Railroad Street. Walkers will leave the lot and head north to Broad Street. They will turn left (west) and walk to Catawissa Street (Odd Fellows Cemetery), then turn right to Lafayette Street and walk two blocks to Nescopec Street and then back to Broad Street and return to the lot.
