n Pottsville: With a week-long extension, the Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania's annual cookie sale will now end Sunday. The cookies season in a 30-county area was extended due to the inclement weather, GSHPA officials said in a press release. "Finding specific locations is as easy as punching a ZIP code into the free Girl Scouts Cookie Locator app for both Android and iPhone users or visiting www.findcookiesnow.org." All cookies are $4 per box, according to the release.
n Pottsville: Seven Schuylkill County restaurants will participate in a special dining event to raise money for Schuylkill Wellness Services, which provides prevention education and case management for HIV and HIV/STD screenings. The "Dine Out for a Good Cause" is scheduled for April 8, and each participating restaurant will donate 20 percent of the evening's food receipts to Schuylkill Wellness. n Schuylkill Haven: About 130 people attended the annual troopers dinner of Melley Memorial Fraternal Order of Police Lodge on Feb. 25 at Summit View Restaurant, according to a press release. Dignitaries on hand included state legislators, magisterial district judges, district attorneys, members of the Pennsylvania State Troopers Association and others. They honored five recently separated department members with combined service of 124 years with the Pennsylvania State Police, including former troopers David Kuhns, Pine Grove; Carl Williams, York; James Biever, Lebanon; Linda Hoy, Douglassville, and Raymond Guth, Mohnton, each of whom received presentations from the National Grand FOP Lodge, PA State Troopers Association, National Troopers Coalition, Pennsylvania State FOP Lodge and Melley Memorial Lodge in recognition of their service. The group lauded A. Joseph Anatanavage, Strausstown, for his many years of service to the state troopers lodge as fraternal solicitor emeritus. Members also acknowledged troopers association President Joseph Kovel, Bedford, for his ongoing service to the membership. Melley Memorial FOP Lodge President Alexander Mohn, Newmanstown, conducted the proceedings.
