n Deer Lake: A "fun-filled day of events," including the Polar Plunge, will be held Saturday at the lake to benefit Make-A-Wish of Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia, according to a press release. The plunge will begin at 1 p.m. and there will be a chili cook-off from 3 to 5 p.m. People wanted to take part in the Polar Plunge into the lake must raise donations via pledges - the minimum being $50 to jump. Breakfast for those preparing to take the plunge will be at 10 a.m. at Deer Lake Pub, where 10 percent of the food sales all day will go to Make-A-Wish, according to the release. Throughout the day, hot food and beverages will be on sale, the Deer Lake & West Brunswick Township Fire Company No. 1 will host a Chinese auction and T-shirts will be provided for participants. Regarding the chili cook-off, the cost is $5 to enter one crock of a favorite chili recipe and $5 to take part in the tasting. The first place winner will receive $100. n Mahanoy City: The Blessed Teresa Golden Agers group will have its first meeting of the new year at 1 p.m. March 12 in the Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Roman Catholic Church Hall.
