None injured

in 4-car crash

CRESSONA - Eight people escaped injury in a four-vehicle collision at 9 a.m. Friday on Sillyman Street, about 125 feet north of River Street, North Manheim Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Steven G. Cryts, 44, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado north on Sillyman Street and struck the rear of stopped a 2009 Ford Flex, driven by Matthew J. Bogus, 31, of Pottstown, which then struck the rear of a 2010 Dodge Ram, driven by Paul R. Herb, 51, of Mar Lin, which then struck a 1998 Jeep Wrangler, driven by Elsie Schneck, 67, of Schuylkill Haven, who was attempting to make a left turn onto Beckville Road.

No one was injured and the Silverado and Flex were towed from the scene. Jennifer L. Bogus, 30, of Pottstown, a 1-year-old female and a 4-year-old male, were passengers in the Flex. A 5-year-old was also a passenger in the Wrangler.

Cressona Fire Company No. 1 assisted the scene.

City woman faces

theft charges

PALO ALTO - A 29-year-old Pottsville woman was arrested by Palo Alto police and charged in connection with an incident that occurred on April 23.

Police said Breanne Newton, 217 Schuylkill Ave., was charged June 15 with burglary, theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception, receiving stolen property, forgery and access device fraud.

Newton was arraigned on the charges and committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $20,000 bail.

Police said Carol Newton, 233 E. Bacon St., reported that someone entered her home and removed a large amount of cash, jewelry and several credit cards that were in her and her deceased husband's name.

A day later, Carol Newton was advised by her credit card company that the cards were being used in several locations including Wal-Mart, Lowes and Home Depot.

Through video taken at the stores, police said they were able to identify Breanne Newton, the woman's daughter, and her boyfriend, Robert Weiss, as the people using the cards.

Police said Weiss is also facing charges of conspiracy and both will have to appear for hearings before Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon.

Woman charged

with taking pills

PALO ALTO - A 41-year-old Pottsville woman was arrested by Palo Alto police and charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property after an incident that occurred June 11.

Police said Elizabeth Norris will have to answer to the charges before Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon.

Police said officers were called to a home at 60 Cadbury St. for a report of stolen medication and learned from the victim, Irene Miller, that Norris was at her home visiting her children.

Miller said that when she went upstairs to the bathroom, Norris went into her purse and removed about 50 Adavan prescription pills and fled the residence.

3 injured in 1-81

crash by Frackville

FRACKVILLE - A 45-year-old Reading woman and her two passengers suffered minor injuries when the 1995 Dodge Neon they were in crashed in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81, at mile marker 124.8 in Ryan Township, at 8:40 a.m. Monday.

State police at Frackville said Marta Lebron-Texidor was driving south in the right lane and lost control when a tractor-trailer changed lanes in front of her. The car went on to the west berm of the road and struck a tree, causing it to roll over and come to a stop on its roof.

Police said Lebron-Texidor and her passengers, Karen Velazquez, 26, and Dionisio Velazquez, 48, both of Reading, suffered minor injuries and taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian Street for treatment.

Police said Lebron-Texidor will be cited for failure to drive on roadways laned for traffic and that Frackville EMS and Altamont firefighters assisted at the scene.

New Ringgold man

may face charges

ORWIGSBURG - A 56-year-old New Ringgold man may face charges of driving under the influence of alcohol after he struck a tree with his vehicle at 1:16 p.m. Wednesday just off the north berm of Chestnut Street, about 350 feet east of Pine Creek Road, East Brunswick Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said James W. Swope was driving a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee east on Chestnut Street and failed to follow a right curve in the road and traveled through the other lane and struck a tree.

Police said Swope exhibited signs of being under the influence of alcohol and was given field sobriety tests before being transported to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street for a blood alcohol test. Charges will be filed with Magisterial District Justice James R. Ferrier, Orwigsburg, pending the results of the blood test.

Kaska woman

facing charges

KASKA - A 24-year-old Kaska woman was charged with harassment by state police at Frackville after an incident at 204 Pine St. in this Blythe Township village about 8:40 p.m. Sunday.

Police said Courtney Slackus became involved in a domestic argument with her boyfriend and when the boyfriend's parents, arrived Slackus struck his mother, Cindy Minrod, 56, also of Kaska.

Slackus will now have to answer to the charge in district court, police said.

Man facing

assault charge

REEDSVILLE - State police at Schuylkill Haven investigated an aggravated assault incident that occurred at 13 Knotts Road in Wayne Township between 8:30 and 8:40 p.m. Sunday.

Police said a 40-year-old man became involved in a domestic incident with a 40-year-old woman, during which he struck her with a 2012 Toyota Tundra truck causing her to fall to the ground and suffer minor injuries.

Police did not release the identities of either the man or woman involved in the incident only to say the man was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko, Port Carbon, and released on $25,000 unsecured bail.

GIRARDVILLE - State police at Frackville are investigating criminal mischief to a vehicle that occurred in the area of 7 W. Ogden St. between 2 and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police said Daniel Bakerofskie said someone hit his 2002 Chevrolet Suburban with a rock on the right rear window, shattering it.

Medication taken

from vehicle

FRACKVILLE - A theft from a motor vehicle that occurred between noon Thursday and 9 a.m. Friday at the Schuylkill Mall parking lot in New Castle Township is being investigated by state police at Frackville.

Police said Joseph Michaels, Barnesville, reported someone stole medication from his vehicle while it was parked unattended.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 570-874-5300.

Vehicle damaged

in Shenandoah

SHENANDOAH - Shenandoah police are investigating a criminal mischief incident that occurred at 14 N. Centre St. between 11 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday.

Police said Cynthia Schadle reported someone deposited several small bags of garbage on her vehicle and also smashed the outer case of the passenger's side mirror before fleeing the scene.

Damage to the mirror was estimated at $100, police said.
