Williamsport man

jailed in incident

MAHANOY CITY - A Williamsport man was jailed Saturday morning after an incident that began at the Cocoa Hut store, 101 E. Centre St., police said.

Borough police said Daniel Donella, 29, of 130 Lawson St., was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker, Shenandoah, on charges of resisting arrest, persistent disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. He was committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $5,000 straight cash bail.

Police said at 3:10 a.m., Donella went to the store and purchased a frozen hoagie, but came back to return the item because he realized it was frozen.

Donella, who had an odor of alcohol on his breath, started arguing with the clerk and was told several times by both police and the clerk to leave and not to return until the manager was there.

After leaving a second time, police said Donella again returned and began to fight with the officer and clerk. He was taken into custody and taken to the police station.

At the station, police said Donella was placed in a holding cell and refused to sit down until his handcuffs were removed. Shenandoah police arrived, and when one of Donella's handcuffs was removed, he became combative and fought with the officers for several minutes before they used OC spray to bring him under control, police said.

Mahanoy City EMS was called to evaluate Donella after the spray was used but he refused several attempts by EMS personnel to be examined.
