A long vacant business building in Audenried, Carbon County, is getting a new life.
The Banks Township Zoning Hearing Board granted the request of Manuel Zamudio and Diana Berry on July 10 to open a restaurant and tax and notary public office in the former Bucky’s Hotel on Route 309 just north of McAdoo.
The board held a hearing into the request, went into executive session and granted the applications for the restaurant, the tax and notary office and signs.
Even though they had 45 days to render the decision, attorney Cindy Yurchak, the zoning board solicitor, said the board wanted to make the decision “ASAP so you can get started.”
Berry said she and Zamudio are cleaning up the property themselves.
“There is a lot of work to do,” Berry said. “Hopefully, we can get it done and open as soon as possible.”
The tax and notary public office will be “inside but separate” from the restaurant, Berry said. The restaurant will serve Mexican and American food, Zamudio said.
The approvals for the restaurant and notary and tax office include conditions, Terry Swinderman, a member of the zoning board, said.
“The parking spaces have to be 9 feet by 18 feet, and must comply with drainage requirements,” Swinderman said. “There has to be one parking space for every three seats in restaurant, so if there are 48 seats, there has to be 16 parking places. All lighting in parking areas must reflect away from all adjoining properties and there must be adequate lighting for all parking areas.”
The zoning board also granted a request for signs for the new business, which Berry said she and Zamudio have not yet named.
However, the zoning board denied a request for two apartments above the new business because information for parking and other requirements were incomplete.
