Temple
Dr. Lindsay Mattalyn Hummel, daughter of David and Jodi Hummel, Schuylkill Haven, graduated May 8 from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine, Philadelphia, with a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree.
She is a 2009 graduate of Schuylkill Haven Area High School and graduated cum laude in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of the Sciences, Philadelphia, before being accepted to Temple.
At Temple, she was president of the Students for Integrative Medicine Club, secretary of the dermatology club, vice president of the technology club and was a member of multiple professional organizations. She served as student representative for the Pennsylvania Podiatric Medical Association and attended a conference on Temple’s behalf in State College. She was a member of Pi Mu Delta Leadership Society and was the recipient of the Leonard Hymes Memorial Fund Award at graduation.
Hummel matched into a residency for foot and ankle surgery at the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital, Philadelphia.
Sacred Heart
Brenna DeStefano, Minersville, graduated summa cum laude May 14 with a bachelor’s degree in health science at Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, Connecticut.
She earned the College of Health Professions Silver Medal for Academic Excellence and is a member of the Delta Epsilon Sigma National Scholastic Honor Society.
At Sacred Heart, Brenna was a member of the dance ensemble, student event team and a volunteer with “Love Your Melon,” a charitable organization to support pediatric cancer patients.
A daughter of James and Jennifer DeStefano, Minersville, Brenna is a 2014 graduate of Minersville Area High School. She will continue her education at Sacred Heart to pursue a master’s degree in occupational therapy.
