Police: Woman
struck by vehicle
A woman was injured when she was struck by a vehicle about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Pottsville
Pottsville police said officers were called to the intersection of South Centre and Union streets for a report of an accident involving a pedestrian and found a 73-year-old Pottsville woman laying on the roadway.
Police said the woman reported being in a posted and marked pedestrian crosswalk when she was struck by an SUV.
The SUV, police said, was being driven north on South Centre Street by Rodney J. Minner, 87, of New Philadelphia, who told officers he saw the woman crossing in the crosswalk prior to impact.
Police said the woman received treatment at the scene by Schuylkill EMS for a visible injury to her right arm as a result of the accident. She was then taken to a local medical facility for follow-up care, police said.
As a result of the crash, police said, Patrolman Charles Webber, the investigating officer, will be citing Minner for not yielding to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

District attorney
warns of scam
NEW RINGGOLD — Schuylkill County District Attorney Christine Holman is warning residents of a recent scam regarding customers of DISH Network.
Holman said a New Ringgold woman was informed that due to recent storms her network had to be rebooted.
The caller was able to get the woman’s mother’s maiden name and the last four digits of her Social Security Number simply by asking her and telling her that he needed to get into her account to upgrade the system.
Holman said there was nothing wrong with the woman’s reception but she fell for the scam and revealed her personal information.
Now, Holman said the woman had to have a security code placed on her system by DISH and also went to her bank and credit companies to have a security placed on those accounts as well.
Holman stressed that the call made to the woman was not by or authorized by DISH Network.
The district attorney again urges everyone not to provide personal information to anyone calling on the telephone and to make sure such calls are valid by contacting the company directly.
Anyone who may have fallen victim to this scam or a similar scam should contact their local police department immediately, Holman said.
