The Cressona Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, 59 S. Second St., will have a Mother’s Day dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. The cost is $11 for adults and $5 for children. Island Park, located off Dock Street, will hold its annual Appreciation Night picnic from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. The park committee has extended an invitation for its sponsors and supporters who contributed to the park over the past year to attend, including anyone who contributed time, money or in-kind services. The old-fashioned picnic will include hamburgers, hot dogs and refreshments. The Shenandoah Valley High School Band, under the direction of Walter Choplick, will perform its annual spring concert beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday in the high school auditorium. A 100th anniversary celebration for Our Lady of Fatima will be held at Divine Mercy Roman Catholic Church, Cherry and Chestnut streets, at noon Saturday. It will include a children’s procession with flowers, crowning of the Blessed Mother, a living rosary and singing. An ice cream social will follow and all are welcome to participate.

As part of the inaugural Schuylkill County Beer Week that features events throughout the county in the week leading up to the third annual Schuylkill County Brew Fest, Anthracite Girls Pint Out will host a Pallets and Pints Night painting event at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St. Proceeds from the event will go to the Tamaqua Area Animal Rescue, which recently had donation jars stolen, according to a release. Vanessa Gerhard of Anthracite Girls Pint Out said in the release she thought the fundraiser would be a good idea when she heard news about the rescue center’s donations having been stolen. Participants will paint on wood pallets and can customize the colors of the Free Beer Tomorrow painting. The event is BYOB and craft beer sampling is included in the admission courtesy of Shangy’s Beer Distributor. For the 100th anniversary of the Blessed Mother’s appearance to three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal (Our Lady of Fatima), a group will gather to pray the rosary in public at noon Saturday in the Park at Five Points, near the intersection of routes 209 and 309. Participants may bring lawn chairs. All are welcome to participate in the “once-in-a-lifetime” event, organizers said in a release.
