William F. Price Sr. recently announced he is a candidate for the mayor of Tamaqua.

Born and raised in the borough, he has been married to Denise Lewis Price for 29 years. Together they have two children, William Price Jr., Tamaqua, and Natasha Price, Slatington; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Upon leaving Tamaqua Area High School, he joined the Navy, where he served for the Submarine Squadron out of Norfolk, Virginia, he said. Price then served as reservist out of Allentown, where he worked with the Coast Guard out of Sandy Hook, New Jersey.

“I received many awards. Sailor of the quarter and sailor of the year,” he said. “Upon my honorable discharge from the Navy, I returned home to Tamaqua.”

He has been employed by Pitt Ohio Express, Hazleton, for 20 years, he said.

“I have decided to run for the position of mayor of Tamaqua to give back to the town which has given so much to me and my family,” he said. “My goals, as your mayor, would be to get more funding and training for our Fight Against Drugs campaign. I would work with senior officials to bring more businesses and jobs to our area. I also want to work with our senior citizens. I want our streets to be safer.”
