n Frackville: Entries for the Frackville Pumpkin Festival limerick contest are being accepted. The poems must be about pumpkins and contain no obscenities. Entries will be read at the festival Oct. 1, with winners announced the same day. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third places.

n Mahanoy City: The Mahanoy City Elks Lodge, 135 E. Centre St., will have a pork chop dinner from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 6. The cost is $9 per person and meals will include two pork chops, scalloped potatoes, vegetable, coleslaw, roll and butter and dessert. Walk-ins are welcome. Patrons may eat at the lodge or take meals out.
n Pine Grove: Naturalist Denise “Nightowl” Donmoyer will lead a program from 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 17 at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park to locate and identify resident and migratory birds that inhabit the park. Birds will be identified by sight and sound and participants may even see a bald eagle, according to a park release. People will meet at the Waterfall parking lot.
