Woman injured
in 1-vehicle crash
FRACKVILLE - A Mahanoy Plane woman suffered moderate injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 8:10 a.m. Thursday on Route 61 south in Blythe Township.
State police at Frackville said the crash occurred as a 2001 Buick Le Sabre driven by William Wetzel, 61, of Mahanoy City, was traveling south on Route 61 in the right lane and lost control of the vehicle.
The vehicle then struck a utility pole on the east berm and came to rest in the left travel lane.
Wetzel had two passengers, Julia Schneider, 20, of Mahanoy Plane, and an infant, who were both in the backseat.
He and the infant were taken to Schuylkill Medical Center South Jackson Street for evaluation.
Schneider, who was ejected from the vehicle during the crash, was transported by LifeFlight to Geisingner Medical Center, Danville, for evaluation of moderate injuries.
Wetzel will be cited for the crash as well as driving while under suspension.
The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Assisting was Goodwill and Altamont Fire Companies and Frackville and Shenandoah Ambulances.
4 escape injury
in 2-vehicle crash
NEW PHILADELPHIA - Four people were not injured in a two-vehicle accident at 6:55 a.m. Thursday on Route 209 near Dodd Street in East Norwegian Township.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred as a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire driven by Michael G. Uranko, 31, of Pottsville, was traveling on the roadway and slid on ice.
He was unable to gain control of the vehicle and slid into the opposite lane, sideswiping a 2003 Ford E350.
The Ford was driven by Ryan O. Troxell, 40, of Tamaqua, with two passengers, Robert C. Felty, 23, of Tamaqua, and Ryan E. Harris, 16, of New Philadelphia.
Police said the Ford was a school tranport van and one of the passengers was a student.
There were no reported injuries.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Uranko faces charges of driving too fast for conditions.
