Police arrest

suspicious driver

HAMBURG - State police at Hamburg arrested Scott James Kiefer Jr. for suspecion of driving under the influence at 2:31 a.m. Sunday at Route 61 and South Fourth Street.

Police said Kiefer was stopped for a traffic violation and failed to complete field sobriety tests.

to hit-and-run

FRACKVILLE - A borough man is facing charges by Frackville police in connection with a crash about 4 a.m. Dec. 3 at Arch Street and South Broad Mountain Avenue.

Police said officers were called to the area for a report of a vehicle struck and learned a hit-and-run driver damaged two vehicles and fled. Police said a trail of fluid was followed from the scene, into West Mahanoy Township, and then back to a garage in the borough.

After several attempts to contact the owner, police said they obtained a search warrant for the garage, but before they could serve the warrant, the driver, Joseph Hahn, contacted the department.

Police said Hahn willingly provided information and admitted being the person driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Hahn, police said, will be charged with careless driving, accidents involving damage to unattended vehicles or property and duty to give information and render aid.

Frackville shed

fire investigated

FRACKVILLE - Frackville police are investigating a fire that occurred in the 100 block of South Second Street about 7:40 p.m. Nov. 29.

Police said borough firefighters were called to the area for a report of a shed fire and quickly extinguished the flames before the shed and several others nearby were destroyed.

Police said the cause of the fire is under investigation and ask that anyone with information call them at 570-874-0238 and leave a message. Callers can remain anonymous and are asked to refer to incident 2-13-2540.

Man charged

with assault

MIDDLETOWN - A Tower City man was jailed over the weekend charged with assaulting and trying to disarm a Dauphin County police officer who was called to a domestic incident.

Middletown police said Eric Lee Reppert, 29, of 209 W. Grand Ave. was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and criminal attempt. He was taken to the Dauphin County Judicial Center, arraigned and committed to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of $250,000 straight cash bail.

Police said the charges stem from an incident about 6:45 a.m. Saturday in the 100 block of North Catherine Street where officers were called for a report of a domestic assault.

After officers determined there was enough evidence to arrest Reppert, he allegedly assaulted an officer and tried to disarm him, police said.

Police, assisted by officers from Lower Swatara Township, used non-lethal force to subdue Reppert and take him into custody without injury.

Police said none of the officers at the scene were injured as well.

Reppert will now have to appear for a preliminary hearing before Dauphin County Magisterial District Judge David H. Judy, Royalton.

arrested, jailed

A Pottsville man was committed to Schuylkill County Prison after being arrested by Pottsville police following a domestic violence incident about 6:30 p.m. Monday at 715 Mahantongo St., Apt. 3.

Police said Douglas Whiteash, 24, was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua, on charges of two counts of domestic violence simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and persistent disorderly conduct. He was then committed to prison unable to post 10 percent of $25,000 bail.

Police said officers were called to the scene for a domestic assault and told by 911 dispatchers that a woman could be heard in the background of the telephone call yelling for a man to "get off her."

Officers found Whiteash on top of the woman hitting her while she was holding their 7-month-old infant, police said adding that Whiteash was physically restrained and taken into custody.

The woman said Whiteash struck her and the infant several times, police said, adding that both had redness and bruising. The two were then taken to Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street for medical evaluation, police said.

Man not injured

in 1-vehicle crash

PATTERSONVILLE - State police at Frackville said a Ringtown man was not injuried when the 1997 Subaru Impreza he was driving crashed about 1:30 p.m. Sunday on Brandonville Road, just east of Scenic Lane in Union Township.

Police said James Druding, 41, was driving east when he lost control of his vehicle on a turn in the road, went off of the road and struck a PPL utility pole. The vehicle the spun clockwise 90 degrees and came to a rest facing south partially over an embankment, police said.

The pole was sheared and suspended over the westbound lane, police said, adding that Druding will receive multiple citations as a result of the crash.

Ringtown firefighters assisted at the scene.
