A Pottsville man went to prison Monday after a Schuylkill County judge determined he had failed to report to his probation officer 23 times and used drugs.

Dennis J. Wiederhold, 23, must spend three to 12 months in prison and undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation under the terms of Judge John E. Domalakes' sentence.

"It's not just the not reporting. He has to show some inclination" to solve his problems, Domalakes said of why he sent Wiederhold to prison.

Wiederhold originally pleaded guilty on Nov. 14, 2012, to possession of a controlled substance, with prosecutors withdrawing a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. At that time, Judge Charles M. Miller placed Wiederhold on probation for 12 months and also sentenced him to pay costs, $100 to the Substance Abuse Education Fund and $50 to the Criminal Justice Enhancement Account, amounts the defendant still must pay under the terms of Domalakes' sentence.

Minersville police originally charged Wiederhold with possessing drugs on April 13, 2012, in the borough.

"I'm an addict," Wiederhold admitted on Monday.
